About: Utah Preppers is designed to be a group informational resource. The content should reflect the varying opinions and experiences of the authors, and commentators as a whole, and not as a single person. The main purpose should be to provide practical information that for all levels of “prepper”. Whether it’s a person just realizing that maybe they want to learn to do one specific thing, or the hardcore survivalist hermit in the Uintahs, we should have information that helps them all grow. Publishing Process: All publishing on the site should go through a review process. Any post needs to be checked and actually published by a second author. Reviewers should check for the obvious spelling and informational errors, but also be ready to provide suggestions, or pose questions that might allow the author to expand the post. Hopefully this can provide for a better overall quality post for our archives. Always remember your audience when writing. If you are talking to a specific knowledge level, let that be understood. If you are going to break up an article into different skill levels, let people know. Content Restrictions: Politics - I don’t want this to become a political blog, yet I see political involvement, and certain issues as key to preppers. So, please use discretion when posting anything of a political nature, and avoid anything that is simply partisan, and give preparedness reasoning to any topic. Religion - Obviously since we are in Utah, many of us are a part of the local dominant religion. However a large part of our readers are from out of state, are non-LDS, etc. So, please remember that religious quotes/texts/beliefs should always be explained. I have no problem at all including them (and actually encourage it) but do remember to use them in a way that anybody from another religion could be uplifted by it, and can fully understand. Personal Experience. I really want as much as possible, to have our posts relate our personal experiences, and our growth. People will relate more to a post on what you thought a recipe tasted like, than just a list of a recipe. Products: Obviously we give a lot of posts discussing specific items we have used, or found interest in. If you have received something for review, let it be known. If you are somehow involved in selling the product, make sure you let it be known (caveat emptor). If you want to review a product, through some contact, just discuss it with some of the authors. We want to make sure whatever it is is relevant first, and that we can do a worthwhile review. Always be brutally honest in your reviews, and give the readers what they need. Actual useful content to see if that’s something useful to them. I never want us to seem like sellouts for any store/product/whatever, without real experience. We don’t represent any company as a site, just our own experience. Affiliates/ads: I know many of us would love to get rich, but I’m sure this isn’t the way. That said, I would like to see authors benefit from this site too :). I do have some ads, and will entertain offers for others. Also many posts will have opportunities to link to a reviewed product. If you are linking to a store, make sure it is for products specifically discussed, not just to have products around. If you are talking about it, please feel free to add an affiliate tag for yourself if you have one. If not, I can get one for amazon that benefits the site (me :) ). Please remember to reference older articles whenever you can, we want to make sure people that stop by to read something stay with the site, and find more content that is useful to them. Remember, putting our experiences and bits of knowledge online can go a long ways in helping somebody else get just a little closer to being prepared for anything. Style Guides: As much as possible we like to remember the following guidelines.

  • Include a topically relevant picture in the lead part of your post
  • If the post is over 1 paragraph, add the ‘more’ tag (in the menu bar) to split the page for a ‘read more’
  • Keep it Clean!
  • Spellchek (yeah it’s a joke)
  • Break up into sections, and use the heading 3 tag to seperate

Other sites: By no means do we expect any author to be somehow exclusive to us. Please keep up any other blogs you may have, and don’t feel bad about referencing content somewhere else. If you’ve already got a great article on how to do something, link over to it. If it’s really good, give some quotes, or if it’s old, maybe a repost with some refreshed information. Topics: You will often see a large number of drafts in the edit queue. I encourage people to start a draft anytime you get a topic in your head. Just enumerate any ideas that come to your head on the topic, and save as a draft. You can come back to it later, OR somebody else can pick it up, or add ideas. Please feel free to add some notes/ideas/etc to any drafts that are sitting around. Licensing: By default, we post as Creative-commons share alike with attribution. If you have any posts with different needs, just clear it with us, and we can make special notice on that specific post. Final Word: So technically it is my site, I guess if there are any questions, just ask. I just want to get some great information out to help our neighbors.
